March 2006:

News

'heroes' cd cover

One year ago, on March 3, four RCMP officers were gunned down on a farm near Mayerthorpe, Alberta. It was the worst massacre of RCMP officers in over a century and shocked Canadians from coast to coast. Constables Anthony Gordon, Leo Johnston, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann were killed by gunman James Roszko, who had a lengthy criminal record and a bitter hatred for police. He later turned his gun on himself.

Keith Myrol, the father of Brock Myrol (one of four slain RCMP officers) has since written and recorded a song entitled "Heroes" as a tribute to the fallen four. His daughter Kalhanie (Brock's only sister) sang backup vocals on the song which he hopes radio stations across Canada will add to their playlists. In addition, stations have been encouraged to air the song simultaneously at 10:05 a.m. on the anniversary of their deaths.

"Heroes" has been made available to more than 300 radio stations across Canada via Musicrypt, the Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) we announced last month. In addition, a CD will also be available for sale to the general public to help raise money for a memorial park to be built in Mayerthorpe as well as funding other projects that Brock Myrol supported.

Brock earned his Black Belt at Arashi Do in Red Deer, Alberta so some of the funds will go to assist the members in attending the world competitions. The Mayerthorpe Fallen Four Memorial Society has already raised $100,000 toward a $1.5 million memorial scheduled to open on March 3, 2007, across the street from the RCMP detachment.

A website with more information on the song will be online shortly at www.brockmyrol.com and CDs can be purchased online through the Pacific Music e-Store.
