April 2006: News![]() It's "Rosie" time again as the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA) ramps up for another year of awards. The "Rosies" are Alberta's version of the Oscars and this year, a record number of entries were received. We are proud to announce that many of our clients have captured nominations in numerous categories. We are especially proud of our own Smita Acharyya who, along with her twin sister Rita of Twinsletown Productions, has been nominated for Best Short or Vignette for their film "Downsizing". One of the scenes was shot in our Calgary "staff diner" and everybody was happy to lend a hand in making the DVD. For more information on Smita's film, just click on "Downsizing". ![]() Also, kudos to both Mike Scullion and Aaron James Sorensen who have spent quite a bit of time around our Calgary offices lately overseeing their individual projects. In fact, Aaron's assistant Marlaine Andresen even moved in for a few months while helping to promote the theatrical release of "Hank Williams First Nation". ![]() Mike's motion picture "Gobshite" received AMPIA Nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Music, Best Overall Sound and Best Editor. Working in conjunction with Nomadic Pictures, the DVD (which was encoded and authored in-house at: DVD Masters) will be released very shortly. For more details, click on: "Gobshite The Movie". Aaron Sorenson's film "Hank Williams First Nation" also garnered quite a few nominations (Best Picture, Best Screenwriter, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress). The film is Aaron's debut project as writer, director and producer. After completing a successful run in theatres, it was picked up by the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) to be developed into a T.V. series. The DVD of the movie will be released on May 30, 2006 with the movie soundtrack to follow shortly after that. The T.V. series is slated to air this fall with closed captioning being handled by Smita in our DVD department.
